Artful Mondays: So I went to a craft fair...

After crocheting and painting for almost a month and a half, with my fingers all numb and sore and my head and eyes feeling like they could stand no more, I set up shop at my first Artisan's Gift Fair in Toronto. With the Christmas season so close, I figured I would take an opportunity to check into some Christmas Bazaars, shows, and sales events. I found one in particular that still had space, was really close to my house and wasn't too pricey in terms of table fee.

So I packed up my records, stuffies, canvases, and Tyler (who is the world's best trooper ever!) and set up shop. I did pretty good. The records seemed to intrigue people, but the best was the facial expressions I got from most people when they saw my STUFFED lil' guys. It made Tyler's weekend anyways.

I did pretty good! Made a bit of a profit too! I think I'll come back next year. This time I'm gonna need more inventory though :D But no crocheting till after new years for me. I'm beat!

Here's their blog for your viewing pleasure! Some amazing vendors and artists were there as well!

Rainy Tuesday...

Ok what to do on a lazy tuesday. Everyday seems like a lazy tuesday. I was supposed to work today but then I got cancelled on.. again. My wallet/bank account is super hurting and empty right now.

However!! Since I've been sitting on my ass alot watching soooo much E Channel and TMZ and ok.. I'll admit it. Alot of the Kardashians. Only cause it seems like they had a marathon for a month.

BUT! I've discovered this new show called The Soup. Now you don't have to watch any tv whatsoever except this show, to be caught up on tv. I can know, even if I don't want to know, everything about Honey Boo Boo!! YAY!! Insert sarcasm here. Good thing the dude makes fun of all the shows. My IQ doesn't go down anymore. The Kardashians did it enough.

So I finally got my studio and desk all built. It's purdy. And now completely covered with all things paint and stencil makings, and yarn, and because I get hungry, candy wrappers. Hey Shoppers had a sale on Halloween stuff. Which I am sooo gonna go get me more the day after Halloween. MMM candy.

Two months in, and I've been pretty art productive. I've got a show coming up at Babylon for The Basement Artists Final Show. So if anyone reading this, come out and support some music, some local art and most important.. BUY MY SHIT BITCHES cause I'm broke and supplying is hard yo!

Ok really most importantly, come out and give me a hug cause I miss you Ottawa.

Enjoy the teaser pics of stuff I've been working on. I kinda jumped on the owl trend bandwagon. But I've got some other stuff coming up too!

TUNAGE OF THE DAY... cause really I like wasting my brain cells. I just hope that playing this doesn't bring on another hurricane. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Mash Up Friday: Rockwell Love

So I've known this guy for um... about 7 years?? Maybe longer. He used to invite me out the Helsinki back in the day to listen to some dope chunez. He was one of the first dj's I befriended off of XVI and got some pretty good friends out of being friends with him!

He never failed to amaze me with what he was able to mash together. I swear one day he took Madonna's La Isla Bonita and put it with something like Blackstreet's No Diggity. His track selection and how he melded two songs together was bizarre but AWESOME.

Dear Chris Rockwell... your new mix is awesome and brings so many memories back. It's been way tooo long dude :D

10 Years Later....

So almost to the date, I moved to Ottawa from lil' ol' the Frew. Yup. I got out, and decided to make myself into something other then a Wendy's fastfood clerk. What's that you say?? I coulda worked at WalMart??? hahahaha.. Unless they take in people who got busted stealing there in grade 8... nope :P

So I packed up all my stuff, moved to the "big" city and made it my home. I went to college, I fell in love, I had my heart stomped on, I worked 2 jobs to make due (thanks OSAP for making my paybacks so high per month) and I drank alot of beer. I moved once every year and a half, sometimes 2 (thanks to my friends with trucks and vans and cars!!!) I met alot of great kids in my adventures and I fell in love a couple more times, then continued to get it stomped on.

I met some of the greatest friends, and some of the flakiest :P And some of the greatest were sometimes the flackiest but I still love you!! My club crew helped me grow to love the city, my rave crew taught me how to be a kid again on the dancefloor and party till the wee hours, and my hip hop crew kept me real. Jeez if I ever get married, how am I gonna pick a dj :P And everynow and then, they all intermixed into one big awesomeness!!

And now I'm all settled into the BIGGER city of Toronto.. with no job, no money, and no idea of where to start first on my next big life goal of creating with art and healing with art. It will come.. I just hope me and Tyler don't get evicted before it happens!!

So here's the new adventure! Don't forget about me though Ottawa and I won't forget you!!

Some tunage for your ears :D Enjoy!

I shit you not, this song was playing as I got on the 416 :D

Mash Up Friday: Beatles And Beastie Boys Love

It doesn't usually get any better then this. Ok I lied. It does, but come on, not everyone always wants to hear how Jay Z can be mashed up with anything. Literally anything. So here's my second fav mashup compilations ever.

I came across these years ago. And they are on all 3 of my ipods. DJ BC came out with two albums mixing and mashing The Beatles and The Beastie Boys and called it DJ BC presents The Beastles.

It's awesome. So che che check it check it out!

Packing Packing Packing

For someone who literally packs up her home every two years, you'd think I'd have it down by now. Nope.
I'm putting it off playing castleville, watching various episodes of tv, sitting on my balcony, and sleeping. Oh and not to mention enjoying my time with people I will miss dearly. If I haven't seen ya yet, don't worry. I will.

And I'm even putting it off writing this blog. AHHHHH. I've come to the conclusion that I need more boxes too. I have alot of stuff. 10 years living in my own space will do that to a person I suppose. I blame working at Chapters for 3 years, and the amount of books I bought from them. Why did your employee discount have to be so good!!! *shakes fist*

ah well.

I think I can, I think I can, I think I can..... go have a shower and go to work. HA thought I was going to say go pack didn't ya!

ya ya I'll get on it tonight. I promise... maybe... sure. ;)

p.s.

Mash Up Friday: Random Tunage

It's friday friday friday... um.. please let me hope that a mashup does not exist with that track in it. I'm not even going to google it to try and see. My ears will forever be mashup tainted forever...and not just forever but...

Ya. That's right.

So here's some rando acts of mashup for you.

Loo And Placido.. this is from their new mixtape they just made. If you love this.. dl the rest of the tape. I'm going to. Cause honestly.. I've been waiting for a new rockin' mashup album from them. And this looks like it's it.

I'm posting this one by JT and C only because it has that cup girl in it. Ya know, the girl who stacks the Solo cups faster then you can say OH MY GOSH!! Funny enough that's what she starts yelling out like a crazy freak when she's done. Anywho... ya.. I'm not a follower of this duo. But.. it's catchy. And full of your regular these day mainstream tunage that EVERYONE is using. But hey.. Cup Girl ftw.

Fissunix made this amazing track. Enjoy as much as I have :D

and I'll leave you with those for the night.

Artful Mondays: Artistic Freedom of Expression

*Disclaimer* smoke some weed or break open a few beer before reading this...

Yup. I'm totally bringing this to your attention.
I was talking about blogs the other day and my buddy Nicko says to me "Oh my god there's totally a blog I just found the other day that's literally all about Katy Perry's boobs"
oh world... you're so creative when you want to be ;) (insert sarcasm here) But hey.. I'm writing about it and it clearly took up some of my time, so I guess it works for what it's supposed to do best. Entertain in some level.

Mash Up Friday: Don't Ever Admit You Did That As a Kid Love

Aight. It's all about the air guitar. And air drums. And air keyboards. And a little bit of knock the crowd down air microphone skills. Whether it be infront of a gym full of kids. Or parents at Talent Night.  Or just you in your room infront of the mirror, we all have to admit... we love to airband. Ya we look like goofs but chicks dig it while guys rock out to it. And we all look waaaaay better playing an air guitar then an actual one. Cause really, who can sing, play the guitar, jump up and down, headbang and do the splits all at the same time??? Oh wait... every 80's hair band out there... gotcha. BUT!!!! did I mention chicks dig it?

My memories of the airband are (going backwards) to watching the seniors every year do an AC/DC and The Tragically Hip Christmas airband compilation. And it being AWESOME. So awesome infact that it was seriously the best thing to look forward to at the Christmas or spirit assemblies. I started dating one of these guys, and realized that they practiced their performances alot. I went to a lot of parties where they would just randomly, and drunkenly throw on a Hip (sorry but it's mashup love and apparently no one but this guy did a Hip mashup!! According to Google) cd and airband through the whole thing. Non.Stop. Yup.

Going back to grade 9 was the horrifying dance airband. Where yes,,, we had to make a coordinated dance routine along to a song and perform it airband style infront of the whole gym class. What band/song was I unfortunately givin? Lets just say there were 5 girls my group and we were given the British Pop Sensation Girl Power band... All Saints. Bet ya thought I was going to say the The Spice Girls weren't ya. Actually ok, we were given the Spice Girls. But seriously, All Saints were a very much unappreciated group as well with way more talent then The Spice Girls at the time. So I shook my bum to the right, and then I shook my bum to the left. And then I apparently all of a sudden began to have a good time and knew that I felt fine.... with some sort of HI SHEEE HUH??? And all in all, was super glad it was only gym class.

Going back further, all the way to elementary school where we as children were introduced to Marilyn Manson. Yup. A group of the boys decided to scar and maybe scare?) the principal and some of the teachers with a nice rendition of Sweet Dreams. I bet  a few phonecalls were sent home that day to a few parents asking if everything was ok at home. The boys took that performance very seriously. Strobe light and red paint included. I tried to pull of No Diggity with a group of peeps. Piano puppet not included.

Now what's next.
Oh I guess it would have to be me and my sister airbanding to The New Kids. I'm not even going to go there. Her idea I bet... not mine. 2 girly kids + boy crush band tape + ghetto blaster + aunt with video camera about to have awesome blackmail or embarrassing wedding footage become available = priceless. And that is all.

And now for what I remember as my first air band experience.

Remember this guy?

What about her?

Put the both together and VOILA!!

Yup. We get Roxette
I remember playing this cd on repeat with a few of the kids at the babysitters and rocking out. Oh ya. I was 7. And I was awesome. My sister, meh. She wished she was awesome as me ;)
And what does all this have to do with me right now??? Well my sister totally got us tickets to go see Roxette in concert in August. Damn strait I'm going to that. I'm pumped. And gonna rock out with my 7 year old air guitar to "The Look".

Now here's some never admit to it but I did mashup love.

Latah Daze!!

ps.. in my AC/DC  search I came across this. Not your banging, dj playing worthy mashup. But I find alot of these on my searches and I gotta say. Some talented people out their doing their own acoustic mashups.
Enjoy

Artful Mondays: The Art of Baking

So I'm no Betty Crocker, and I definately ain't no Duncan Hines. And HELLLLZ no I am no where near a Martha Stewart. But from time to time I like to bake.

And it's a short but very sweet post tonight. But baking really is an art. Atleast, to get yummy results that are melt in your mouth, oh so yummy and make me want to eat it all and add 10 pounds to my ass.

So I have a meeting tomorrow night, and all the ladies were going to be making dishes and no one had offered dessert yet. So I said I'll make cake pops. Well.. I was asked to do something a little more waistline friendly. However, I'm still doing a few of those and no one is going to stop me. Cause I've never done them and my neighbor does them all the time and they are awesome. So I'm trying it. Anyways.. I decided on apple danish bites. They turned out pretty ok. I think. They smelled amazing. And were not burnt so, I'm guessing they taste delish too!

MMMM apple danish bites!

ok ok.. so I tried to add some kinda apple tunez... but I got peaches instead!!! Maybe it's the world telling me to try peaches next time.

ps side note... drunken kitchen baking!!! This girl still cracks me up!!

Mash Up Friday: 4:20 LOVE

Ok, so I'm a taaaaaad late on the 4:20. But a girl's gonna pay her bills and show up for work. Oh don't worry. I did debate for a brief moment in time to get a supply and call in sick. But responsible adult in me said "no I can't be a stupid highschool\college kid anymore. Go to work" So I did.

So here's some 4:20 Love for your Mashup Friday. and even though it's a good 2 plus hours past toke up time, I still hope you're celebrating... in any form you choose ;)

Mash Up Friday - Local Talent

So I went and saw this guy last weekend. And I gottsa say, as a small city gal I love my local talent. I'm gonna admit. He's not so much mashing. More like throwing down some lyrics over some tunes that are either scratched or played side by side. But.. he's a local guy trying. And he's trying very well.

So give him a listen. Cause it's not bad!

Mash Up Friday - Van Halen

Aight, so.. I unfortunately had to miss out on not one, but TWO nights of Van Halen. I even walked through the ACC as I saw all around me the many booths selling Van Halen tshirts and posters and whatnot. Sad face times 10.
Being the always broke ass I am, I could not afford to go see them. Ah wells. I heard they were both awesome shows. So, to make up for it... here's some mashup Van Halen !!!

Who doesn't like a bit of funk with some metal????

I like this one. DeadMau5 is Hot for a Teacher!! Rawr.

Now, I'm not a huge fan of Eminem mashups. I feel he is constantly getting mashed up. But.. Right Now and Loose Yourself kinda work together.

Hey Beck, you were awesome. And now even more awesome!!

This is pure cheese, but I like it.

Ok,, so I searched through dozens of Van Halen mashups. And alot of artists tend to use Jump as their track of choice. Or a tiny snippet of some guitar work from other tracks not worthy of it being included. So I'll spare you the countless jumps... except for this one. Not so metal, more so Gold. Enjoy.

I also found a pretty good Supremes mashup with Jump, as well as a CeeLo Green Jump as well. But you can Google for yourself.

ps... some regular mashup rock for you incase you want more then Van Halen!

Blog Love

I want to do a zillion things in my life. Travel, paint, acquire an awesome dvd collection, win the lottery (ha i wish!) but the one thing I really really need to stop doing, is staying up till 2 am blog stalking. And by stalking I mean finding a blog I like and going through every single post since that blog's existance to find something I can make, or something I can be inspired by or something I can take to work and make with the kiddies.

The downfall to blog stalking is, I find a link on someone's blog regarding a DIY beautiful mirror, or a pattern for an awesome amigurumi, and the link takes me to a whole NEW BLOG!! To which I then start going through their entire blog history. And sometimes the cycle repeats itself. Over and over and over.

Oiy blog love.

Here are some of my favs just for you :D

Artful Mondays: A Green Thumb

So I've recently joined Pinterest. It's pretty nifty. I'm not using it as a blog though. More as a space to use for the endless amounts of bookmarked pictures and things I come across that I would like to remember for future use. The good thing about Pinterest is that you can follow your facebook friends as well. And on one of my friend's boards was this awesome picture of how to use a palette to make a balcony green.

Post image for How to Turn a Pallet into a Garden

Pretty nifty eh?? And just as luck has it, I totally saw a house down the street with a few of these bad boys hanging on the side of the driveway. So, tomorrow, I'm gonna go see if the owner would like to give me one just for this purpose.

Awesome. Add a little green to my balcony in a new different way.

And here's a little green for you!!! Hehehehehe :D

Mash Up Friday - POP

Why do I love mashups so much. Because regardles the song, the style, the era, or the creator, it always makes me want to bust out in my living room and just DANCE. Sure a good majority of mashups are very overheard top 40 pop songs. But WHO CARES!!  The good thing about going out to the club is hearing your local or not so local dj's playing all the songs that you can bust a move out to, jump up and down, and sing the lyrics at the top of your lungs because no one will hear you over the music. Yes sometimes I can be very girly while out dancing. And moments like that make me even girlier. And mashups bring ALL THOSE SONGS TOGETHER in one 4 minute track. Best of everything all in the comfort of your own home. Or at a party. Or if you're lucky enough to have a mashup dj come to town. PS Dear Girl Talk please come back again to Bluesfest this year. Or have more mashup dj's come to Ottawa anytime, not just during Bluesfest.

And for the pop music lover in me.. here's some for you. And I must say, mashup vidoes are getting much better in how they are being put together.

Happy Mashing.

Artful Mondays: Crochet Rug!!

So I've never done a rug before. But the latest issue of Crochet Today has this really neat cute rug. I decided on a few color changes, but I really wanted to try it. It might not even be used as a rug, I could even hang it up as a wall piece or something interesting like that.

I began to stitch it up. I will admit, I failed completely on a stitch count, I was putting all my double crochets in the wrong stitches in a certain round, and I even forgot which row I was one after picking it up from putting it down for a bit. All this led me to taking it apart and restarting it.
It doesn't look how the picture looks like, but I think that's the colors not showing some of the stitches shapes. So far I like it :D Not the greatest photo as the lighting in my apartment at night is not nearly as nice as sunlight.

Only half done, with a really nice grey to make it bigger to come!

Mash Up Friday!!!

Ok Ok, so I need a little more incentive to actually post some new interesting stuff up here. So I'm going for some themed post days. What kind of days?? Well, because Monday's suck and I lack motivation to do ANYTHING, I'm declaring Monday as Artful Mondays. Where I will share with you what I'm working on, or what I want to work on, or what I should be working on. Or better yet, something I've finished.

But today isn't Monday. It's Friday (happy friday ;) ) And today I present to you a new Mashup Mix by the very talented Loo & Placido. Unfortunately, their site is under construction, but I'm sure if you like them, you'll have no problem finding past tracks and mixes by them on Soundcloud or on Mashuptown.

So here's an awesome way to bring on the weekend!! Enjoy the mix!

Random Thought (or well.. not so random) of the Day

Is it so hard to not casually wave off the feelings and needs of a quality longtime friend when it comes to involving another new and less quality friend. Apparently, it isn't hard at all. Or so I was shown. It's things like these that really make you see who you can call a friend, and who will be there for you when you actually really do need it. And make you see which friends really do just wants your happiness and for you to still feel like you belong.

Yes I'm talking about me right now. And yes, I feel like I was just blatantly brushed aside in an issue that meant more to me and I had more to lose, then it did the other party. But people make their choices. Friends who don't want to take sides do. Whether they see that or not. What seems more important to some, clearly isn't as important to others I guess. Everyone holds things up a different values. I get that. But one's sense of belonging and continuing to do something that they look extremely forward too, shouldn't be brushed aside so easily.

Ah well, new people come in and out of your life all the time. And it's everyone's right to make a choice that hurts an old friend to continue to build a repore with a new one.

I fail at Blogging...

No new post since November eh?? well.. here's a change to that!! Music blog time!!! That is all.

... on a side note... I'm not sure I'm liking blogger too much. It keeps messing up my pictures and sidebars and things like that. I may start fresh. It is a new year after all.
