It's Ribfest in Ottawa. That's right!!! Step out your front door if you live anywhere near the downtown area and take a deeeeeeeep breath. And smell the gloriousness of bbq ribs and chicken and pulled pork. No don't just smell. Go have some!!It kicked off Wednesday. And after a failed attempt at going for lunch, I called up my sister (ok you caught me I texted) and said we should go. Now I was shocked and amazed to discover that my sister, who loves ribs, has NEVER BEEN to Ribfest. In all the years she has lived in this glorious city, she has never ever been to a Ribfest.
Now back in the day, they used to pair up Ribfest with Beerfest, but sadly that is no longer.
So I met my sister at her work, we trucked over, in the rain too I might add, to Sparks street, and there we began the day ol' debate on which Ribtruck/stand do we try. Since my sister had never experienced this before, I wanted to make sure we settled on a kick ass truck with some amazing ribs. We walked back and forth a few times, but after close inspection (ok really I just watched to see how much sauce they put on the ribs) I decided we would go to Bibbs. I usually get the pulled pork, so that was my choice. And Lisa got a half rack. Then we sat under an umbrella at 73 North's patio and paired it with a beer. And after Lisa's first bite, she now understood the awesomeness of Ribfest. I will be dragging her with me next year!!Then she went home, and I decided to go for one more drink with some friends at the Cock and Lion. A good way to end a Ribfest experience. I wish I wasn't so broke and could go again :( Ah well, next year!!
GO GET SOME RIBS!!!!
Latah Daze!
